Why am I seeing "Your subscription amount is not set" and how do I fix it for Model Portfolio?

Why this happens

Some Model Portfolio subscribers may see a pop-up message stating:

"Your subscription amount is not set or may have been cleared when your plan was extended. Would you like to update your subscription amount now?"

This message appears when you try to participate in a basket, but no subscription amount has been recorded against your Model Portfolio. This usually happens in one of the following situations:

  • The subscription amount was not entered correctly at the time of subscribing to the Model Portfolio.
  • The value was cleared automatically when your plan was extended or renewed.

Why the subscription amount matters

The subscription amount is not optional information — it is the starting point we use to calculate your Model Portfolio basket. Once we know how much you want to invest, our system calculates:

  • How many stocks (or ETFs) should be part of your basket for the selected Model Portfolio.
  • The exact quantity of each stock or ETF that needs to be bought based on your investment amount.

Without this value, we are unable to generate your basket or quantities, which is why the system prompts you to set it before you can proceed further.

Each Model Portfolio has its own minimum and maximum investment range, and this range may differ from one Model Portfolio to another. When setting your subscription amount, the amount you enter should be at least the minimum value defined for that particular Model Portfolio. The exact minimum and maximum applicable to you will always be displayed within the Modify Investment window at the time of entry, so please refer to that for the current range.

How to fix this: Step-by-step

If you see this pop-up, you can click OK to be guided through the process, or follow the steps below manually.

Step 1: Go to the Recommendations tab

From the left-hand menu, click on Recommendations. This section displays all your active Model Portfolio recommendations as cards.

Step 2: Open the relevant Model Portfolio recommendation

On the card for the Model Portfolio affected (for example, MQ- FlexiCap Momentum), click the eye icon located next to the Accept Rebalance button. This opens the detailed view of that Model Portfolio.

Step 3: Click Modify Investment

On the Model Portfolio detail page, click the Modify Investment button, located at the top right corner next to Modify Holdings.

Step 4: Choose Top Up or Full Amount

A window titled "Modify your investment allocation" will appear. Here, you will see your currently invested amount for that Model Portfolio, along with the minimum and maximum investment limits applicable to it. You have two options:

  • Top Up: Select this if you want to add an additional amount on top of your existing investment. Enter only the additional amount you wish to invest.
  • Full Amount: Select this if you want to set or reallocate the entire investment value from scratch. Enter the complete amount you wish to have invested in this Model Portfolio.

Please ensure the amount you enter falls within the minimum and maximum range displayed in this window.

Step 5: Confirm the allocation

After entering the amount, click Confirm Allocation.

Step 6: Choose whether to rebalance immediately

Once your allocation is updated, a confirmation window titled "Updated Allocation" will appear, showing the updated amount set for the Model Portfolio. You will be asked whether you would like to rebalance now to deploy the cash immediately. You have two choices:

  • I will rebalance later: Your subscription amount will be updated, and the basket will be generated, but the trades will not be placed immediately. You can accept the rebalance at a later time from the Recommendations tab.
  • Go to section for rebalance: This will take you directly to the Recommendations section so that you can review and accept the rebalance right away.

What happens next

Once your subscription amount has been successfully updated, our system will recalculate the Model Portfolio basket and quantities based on the new amount. You will then be able to accept the rebalance from the Recommendations tab, after which the corresponding trades will be placed as per your broker settings.
